BOSTON (CBS) – Scientists tracking a couple of Great White Sharks that spent part of the summer off Cape Cod say the sharks have turned up off the coast of northern Florida.

This past summer, researchers with OCEARCH attached sophisticated tracking devices to a 16-foot, 3500-lb. female Great White named Mary Lee and a 15-foot, 2500-lb. female named Genie.

On Friday night, researchers received a ping from Genie off the coast of northern Florida around  Jacksonville.

On Saturday morning, Mary Lee showed up just north off the Georgia coast around Brunswick.

The scientists are expected to spend part of the winter down south tracking the sharks.

They hope their research will go a long way toward solving the puzzle of these huge fish that prowl the New England coast in the summer and travel more than a thousand miles south for the winter.
